                           by Haley Brimley

Bent at the waist.
Doubled over.
Glistening with sweat.
Water dripping all over my face.
The paddle swings again. The screams echo in my ears.
I don't know how much longer I can take this.
I pray it's over soon.
Yes... thank God... the finish line!
Canoeing is so stressful.

Teehee. Cute. Except for "Water dripping all over my face," you really caught me here. I was sure I was reading about a different kind of paddling. Gold star for exactly 50 words.

Laughing is a very effective way of relieving tension in real-life. If an author can induce laughter it shows a certain empathy with a reader they may never meet. That's a very laudable ambition, and the author of 'Paddling' achieved it nicely with this reviewer.

This mini-saga is very cute. There is the buildup and the reader thinks the person is getting a paddling and then the final twist--- they are rowing a canoe.
